Tamara Šenekar

In Serbia as a student I was introduced to calligraphy. In Indonesia I was learning Balinese Sanskrit and in Palestine my fascination towards calligraphy as an artistic form became even more apparent. There I started practicing Diwani, a style of Arabic calligraphy marked by its beauty and harmony. Every element of writing, reinforced my interpretation of “calligraphy as spiritual architect”. I was inspired by resent travels and far east aesthetics which consists in rustic unpretentiousness, apparent simplicity or effortlessness in execution. Therefore in this artworks I am trying to transform my knowledge of calligraphy and dance from representational to abstraction, reaching simplicity but still keeping the recognizable note of movement and art of writing.

‘FLOW’

Tamara’s art is primarily abstract- her creative energy and extraordinarily rich emotional landscape channeled through movement, shape and line to sublime effect. Tamara masterfully translates her inspiration onto every canvas; every stroke is a manifestation of her deep rooted passion and emotion. She enjoys experimenting with different techniques and loves to balance movement, energy, texture and music in her work, utilizing various materials to unique effect. As dance has always been an essential part of her art practice, the resulting work often emphasizes the physical act of painting itself as an essential aspect of the finished work. In positive psychology, flow, is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting loss in one's sense of space and time. With this new body of work artist goes beyond the conventional interpretation of calligraphy as a form of writing. It is where dance and calligraphy found their natural connection bridging in a series of
experiential hand movements and creating lines that flow. The body has no defined limits and letters are alive like a water current that is carrying us along.
