Dates: Friday 27 to Sunday 29 January 2023

This Weekender residency was organised by UK New Artists and generously supported by 4C Group and Canopy By Hilton London City Hotel. This was the sixth iteration of the weekender programme with previous events having taken place in Blackpool ( 2017 & 2021) St Ives (2018), Skegness (2019) and Derry, Londonderry, Northern Ireland (2022).

We offered artists an amazing opportunity to work and spend time at the Canopy by Hilton London City Hotel. A hotel is a transitory and a temporary place for its visitors with its own ebb and flow. A place which brings people from all over the world together and Canopy by Hilton London City Hotel is situated in an established and diverse neighbourhood in East London renowned for its arts and cultural heritage and complex and layered history and is at a unique intersection of London by the River Thames.

Our Weekender #6  micro residency was carefully curated to see how artists navigate and use this unique space both internally and externally. The micro-residency investigated the following themes:

Mapping, journeys, history, identity, landscapes,  urban environments, change, transition, ephemerality, migration…

The Weekender was curated by Rosalind Davis; artist-curator and a graduate of The Royal College of Art (2005) and Chelsea College of Art (2003).  As an artist, Davis has exhibited nationally and internationally and has had a number of solo shows in London.
